The Texas State University campus is built into the Texas Hill Country. It’s often described as one of the prettiest college campuses, with its rolling hills and lush landscaping, but it can also be hard to navigate because of the many hills and stairs. It’s especially tough to navigate for someone with mobility impairments. In this news feature, student reporter Carlene Ottah takes us along with student Xander Dean Shannon, who uses a mobility device to get around campus.

Reporter Brandon Nuevo talks with student Sandy Lawson, who is a member of Smooth Movers, a student group formed to help navigate Texas State’s hilly campus; and Amber Cantu, a disability coordinator in the Office of Disability Services.

And reporter Laura Walker hosted a podcast about help available to Texas State students with mobility difficulties. In this episode of Student Voices, Laura talks with Amber Cantu, a disability coordinator, and Rebekah Rowlands, an employee, in the University’s Office of Disability Services. They were also joined by two students: Xander Dean Shannon, who uses a mobility device to get around campus, and Leovani Lynch, a Texas State student who has POTS and joint issues and is an ambulatory wheelchair user.
